Take A Listen

Double Dose:

Returning first is Wiz Khalifia with the track "The Kid Frankie" off his Kush & Orange Juice mixtape. It's pretty solid and if nuthin else the old skool beat jus makes ur head nod and u kinda start to vibe even if you don't want to. lol

Next up is Statik Selektah with "Life Is Short" featuring Consequence and since I think Statick Selektah is jus a producer, it's kinda jus Consequence. The video's kinda funny and show's what's problem the worst nite out you can have. Check it out.

"Dueces"

So Chris Brown released a video for the track "Dueces" which features Tyga & Kevin McCall and is on his and Tyga's mixtape Fan Of A Fan which is out now. I gotta say that honestly I like the song cause I relate to the "message" in the song and could even send this song out for some people. I've heard the mixtape is solid from a few people but I haven't listened to it myself yet. What do you think about this cut?

Take A Listen

So we got anutha 1.5 day....

First up is Novel with his track "U Do It For Me" feat. Algebra Blessett. It's got a smooth beat; kinda nice to ride to for the summer, and lyrically I'd said Novel is solid. He's got an everyday flow that I think anybody can relate to. Either way u gonna form your own opinion so take a listen and judge for yourself.

And for the half is La The Darkman with "You". The track features Bobby V & Willie The Kid and it's got some potential but I just don't see it goin there. That's jus me though, you may feel differently. La's been featured here before so I kno he's not all bad, but check this one out and tell me what you think.

More Females To Come???

So I ran across videos for two female rappers today and figured I'd post to see how you guys might feel about em'. Mean I'm hoppin sumbody will make it so I can stop hearin Nicki Minaj (she should be seen & not heard in my opinion, sry! [I'm not hatin' though, I'd get my money if I was her too]).

Ok, first is Xplicit Lyric with "I'm Nice Wit It". She def comes hard with her confidence in rappin and thinks she's sexy as hell which u'll see in the video. Her flow ain't deep but it's aight. I mean I can see her gainin a bit of a followin:

Agree or Disagree?

The next video has a couple of MCees in it but, focus on the white girl (yea, I said it). She goes by the name of Eternia. I def like the personality she gives off, but I'll say that her rap game might still have some developing to do (jus my opinion). However, she is pretty decent though. I'm kinda interested to hear more from her. She's part of a "group" called Eternia & MoSS (rapper & producer) and this is her video for "At Last" featuring Reef The Lost Cauze & Termanology. All are decent I think.

Take A Listen

Today you get a dose and a half:

Up first is the video for Vado's "Large On The Streets". Vado's reppin for Harlem and has done some work with Cam'ron, but I'm not sure if he's part of that crew yet (I think he is though). This track's off his upcoming Slime Flu mixtape that's suppose to drop soon. Lyrically he's got some alrite punchlines, I'll def give him that. He samples the late, great Big L on this track and I think does it justice (he had to for me to post it and if he hadn't I'd probably hate him for disgracin Big L). It's solid though. R.I.P. Big L.

Up next is a freestyle video from a Bay Area rapper who calls himself Ya Boy. He does the freestyle over the Who's Real beat and does.....ok for himself I'll say (punchline rapper). What you think?

Mayb You'll Get On It?

French Montana clicked up with Wiz Khalifa, Nipsey Hussle, & Big Sean for the track "I'm On It". The track's on French Montana's Mac & Cheese 2 mixtape which is out now. This is kinda an odd post for me cause I don't really think the track is all that solid and I can't say I even like French Montana, BUT Wiz Khalifia has been growing on me since I got his Kush & Orange Juice mixtape and Nipsey Hussle is like a walking, talking, rappin, crippin', reincarnation of Snoop and I kinda like his steez so far. So because these two were on it I figured I'd post it and see what people thought about them and the rest of the guys on the track.

What u think?

Take A Listen

Today I bring you Dramills and his video snippet of "Dreams". Track sounds pretty hot to me. I wonder what the whole thing sounds like?

Feelin "Tipsy" In da Club?

So DJ Webstar jus released his video for "Tipsy" and I won't be surprised if I start hearin this track errtime I go to the club for a while. The track features Serani; who I call the reggae Kieth Sweat, and Jadakiss. Jada's verse is what got me into the track so I could stand it and he's not til the second verse. The dude Serani's voice kinda gets on my nerves though and Webstar is well....Webstar. But given the beat and hook, which is all a lot of people listen to, I can see this def bein a club banger. Raise a glass and press play.

Wiz Khalifa Makes A "Statement"

Wiz Khalifa jus released a video for "The Statement" off his Kush & Orange Juice mixtape and although the video's pretty simple, to me the song is dope. Actually the whole mixtape is dope. He's got a bunch of kinda laid back grooves perfect for drivin and for you smokers out there, it's good for tokin too. Wiz is def a smoker himself. I haven't picked up a mixtape until this one, but I gotta say I'm pleased with it. Before this the only song I knew him for was "Say Yeah" which got some pretty good play I think. Check em' out though, he def gets my recommendation (not the most lyrical, but his flow is nice I'll say).

"Know we belong on top, but we ain't trippin...Cause we'll get there in a minute."

Exhibit C As Seen By Lateef

So I got an e-mail dropped to me today from a producer from "in and around the nyc area" as he put it. His name is Lateef Dameer and he remixed what I'm callin the hottest track made this yr and mayb for the next five years. That track is Jay Electronica's "Exhibit C". He's remixed this track quite nicely I might add and built a story through his music. I'm just gonna give you guys the link cause I want you guys to visit his page to hear the tracks and if u want, get some more of his sites (myspace, twitter, & such). My hat goes off to you brother, keep up the good work! I'll leave you with his explanation of why he choose this track to remix and you can't click on his words to get to the site & I'll leave an extra link at the bottom.

"When I had first heard Exhibit C, I knew that it was going to be one of those songs that would capture and inspire imaginations for years to come. The one thing that has always intrigued me about Jay Electronica, are the stories of his travels. This EP is a reflection of those journeys, each remix is based around a theme from Jay's life. Magnolia stems from his origins and beginnings in New Orleans, Nirvana (Limbo) is based around his nomadic travels, and Dreams is representative of his lifelong dreams becoming a reality. Exhibit C is available on itunes, support good and honest music."

Some Overseas Action!

Ok, so I wanna kno how y'all feel about some overseas hip hop so I got two videos for u:

First is S.A.S. with their track "Shout". They sound english and the sampled an old rock classic. They're koo wit me, once I kinda get pass the accent.

Next up is Stella Mwangi and her video for "Favorite". I gotta say I def like this joint and if they're not gonna let any female MCs from the US come up, mayb they'll bring in sumone from overseas. She's from Kenya/Norway (at least that's how WSHH put it). She has a site www.stellamwangi.com if you want to check out more of her. I bout to check it out myself.

So what you think about how Europe's doin it?

Take A Listen

So we got three up today! I'll say two I support and one I'll leave it to you.

Marky comes at you first with a video for "Louis Squares". I don't have any info on him, but I think the cuts hot. A lot of people who are chasin nuthin but money might wanna take heed to some of the stuff he says. Can u dig it?

La The Darkman has worked with some DJ Drama a few times; at least I kno he's on Chris Brown's mixtape wit Drama and Drama's Gangsta Grillz: The Album. He's got his own lil' video now for a cut called "Roll With The Mob". It's aight to me, what u think?

This video comes from Nyce Da Future and his cut "American Gangsta". I think the track is solid, but I feel like he might be copyin the image the movie & Jay made from the title American Gangster a lil' to hard. Wat's ur opinion?

Stacey Dash! Umm!

Ok, let's do hip hop first. Ok, so below is Rick Ross' new video for "Super High" off his upcoming The Teflon Don album. The song features Ne-Yo and it's an ok cut. Nuthin, I'm greatly excited over but uummm I like lookin at Stacey Dash. I kno she's old and all, but she still got it I'm sry. I wonder how she is in person?...Check her out in the video and I guess u can pay attention to the song if u want to also.

Take A Listen

Today's take a listen comes from Wes Fif with "Beep". It's got some potential I think, but iono. Guess we'll see if Wes sticks around. If you want more of Wes Fif he's got a mixtape droppin May 18th entitled It Ain't Hard To Tell.

Friday, May 14, 2010

Been Waiting For More Diggy?

Well, your in luck! Diggy jus released a video for "What They Been Waiting For". The track comes from his Airborne mixtape which is suppose to drop sumtime soon. I would assume this summer he'll be puttin in work for the album he'll be droppin bein that he's already got a record deal. Diggy def has a lot of potential to me, what do you think? Is he worth waitin on?

Life In The Bread Aisle?

Asher Roth jus released a video for the cut "Muddy Swim Trunks" from his Seared Foie Gras With Quince & Cranberry mixtape. The video is kinda random but at the same time entertaining to watch. You think anybody actually kinda lives like this in a grocery store?

Thursday, May 13, 2010

Diddy Says Hello

Diddy-Dirty Money (why not jus put an & in it?) finally released the video for the single "Hello, Good Morning" which features Rick Ross & T.I. As hard as the beat knocks I'm not sure you'd bump this in the mornin unless it's like 2AM comin from da club, but that's kinda the purpose rite? Anyway I think the tracks produced by Swiss cause he's in the video and as much as Diddy hyped the video, I'm seriously not that impressed. Nice car though. The tracks off The Last Train To Paris album, set to drop June 29th. I still wanna kno how Dawn feels from goin as a star in a group that sells to second fiddle and doin only hooks & background vocals? Mean u could pay me to do it, but I'm broke and was neva part of a platinum sellin group. T.I.'s flow is sick though if u ask me (prob didn't have to question that though). Check it out.

Take A Listen

Ok, continuin' with the busy day here at the blog, let's see if we can't open ya ears up to some unfamiliar faces. Got 3 for you today.

First up is a female EmCee who goes by the name of Kalae All Day with her single "O.G.LyrikalBookbagger" which features Homeboy Sandman. Some people would call this backpacker hip hop, which they obviously do themselves, but regardless she's actually kinda nice on the mic. She almost reminds me of someone with the singin & rappin. Gosh I miss that woman (LH, hope you've caught on by now). She definitely could eventually make a statement in the game in the future but that remains to be seen. The track's off her AFROMATIKNEOHIPPIEROCK*SOLEMUZIK album which is out now, so you can pick that up if you want more. Homeboy Sandman has an album comin' out June 1st entitled The Good Sun too if you want more of em' (personally iono bout that one, but what do I kno rite). Check this one out all the way through though to get a taste of Kalae All Day.

Next up for your ears is I guy I've introduced you to before. It's Curt@!n$ with "Letter To The People Pt. 2" I gotta said I'm pretty impressed with dude so far, but we gotta see how well he does when it comes to makin a complete track I guess. Mayb I should go searchin for that....anyway, open your ears and check him out (hopefully again).

Last but not least is my "volley of the day." Figure I'd let you decide for yourself on this one. The songs got a good concept and the videos got sum cool effects most definitely though. The video is for Fashawn's "Samsonite Man" and features Blu. Kinda a "travelin mans" song if you put it in a category but of course it could fit in many dependin on how you look at it. I think Blu carries the song kinda with his one verse though. If you like it though, this is off of Fashawn's collaboration album with Exile Boy Meets World which is in stores now. Open your ears.

Back & On The Pursuit Of Nappyness

The Nappy Roots are big and makin' a big push with the release of two videos for tracks off the upcoming ablum, The Pursuit Of Nappyness. I for one am glad to see this guys back, iono how you feel. First up check out their video for their lead single "Ride" (whose video has a pretty interestin "storyline," pay attention to that) and after the jump you can catch their video for "P.O.N." Welcome Back to the other Nappy boys!

"And I am hip hop even when I claim south"
"Go on do the stanky leg, it's better than talkin bout shootin people in the head."

"Give It To Me"

Rhymefest's video for "Give It To Me" will make you see cartoons in a whole new way. Literally. The single is off his upcoming album El Che set to drop June 8, 2010. I think it's been pushed back a few times but they say this is the solid date now. Definitely check out this video though.

Factz Is At It

Mickey Factz jus dropped a video for the track "Alpha" today. The video could be considered sumwhat edgy and "futuristic?" (I guess u could call it that) Anyway, the songs alrite and I won't be surprised if I start hearin it at some greek picnics. I kno if I was them I'd pick it up. What you think?

As Only E-40 Can Do

So E-40 jus released his video for "Light Weight Jammin'" which features Clyde Carson and Husalah. The single is off one of his Revenue Retrievin': Day Shift or Revenue Retrievin': Night Shift albums. Which CD this track is on...I'm not sure. Either way this is one off them songs that without E-40 on it, I couldn't see it workin. I wonder if this is bumpin in Cali cause there's a lot comin outta the west coast at one time rite now. Anyway, 40's album is in stores now but check this video out. Jus makes u remember the days of "Tell Me When To Go" lol

Makin' A Comeback?

So today I ran across this video for Lil Cease & Apaulo Treed for "Hustle". Of course my whole thought was "What!? Lil Cease?" Well he might be tryna make a comeback I'm not really sure. Video didn't come wit any info but Lil Cease's part in the song is alrite and in today's world where Omarosa is gettin a datin show, Cease may very well be workin his way to a comeback. You jus neva kno...

Take A Listen

Today's take a listen features two songs and jus a video to watch and jus take in what's said so let's get down to business:

First up is Young Jinsu with his video for "The Message". I definitely vibed to this track and give him a thumbs up for it. No info was listed with the vide other than the director but all in all I think it's a pretty solid cut. What u think?

Next up is Mike Dash E with his video for "Pardon Me". This cut didn't grab me but I didn't feel like I shouldn't share it necessarily either, so I say you be your own judge on this one. Sure people will go both ways about it. No info on the artist was found this time either.

Last up is jus a message from Reflection Eternal (Talib Kweli & Hi-Tek) entitled "This Is Hip Hop". Well the title speaks for itself so check it out and listen to what's said.

"It's In The Mornin" with Robin & Snoop

Robin Thicke released the video for his new single "It's In The Mornin" which features Snoop Dogg. The track something that's so fitting for Snoop to be on and I gotta say I like the track. It sounds a lil' different to me in a way but I generally like different. The tracks off Thicke's Sex Therapy album which is already out and well this track definitely might get sum bedrooms rockin. Even first thing in the mornin. Video's pretty homely and shows us regular folks the dream vacation we're tryna take wit that special sum1 ourselves. I'm a lil' jealous this is prob their everyday life, probably sumwhere in Cali. At least they make it look nice. lol

Drake's Got a New Video....

I kno, I kno, some of you are like who cares cause he hasn't really made a great video yet. Well, in my opinion this is probably his best attempt at it yet. He kinda goes to what he knows best for this video which is acting. I mean it where he got his start. He puts a storyline to his new video for "Find Your Love". Of course the tracks off Thank Me Later which is set to drop June 15th. This track was produced by Ye' and the video was shot in Jamaica and co-stars Maliah Michel who's said to be his gf & Mavado. Alrite, so there's your spects for the video. I'll leave my comments on the video in the comments so I don't ruin the video for you.

West Coast Resurrection?

Ice Cube dropped his video for "I Rep That West" which is off his upcoming album I Am The West which is slatted to drop July 13. Far as the west coast goes the only artist makin noise as of late have been the New Boyz & Snoop but both only with one single. Now to be honest, the west coast could live solely off of west coast sells like E40 mostly does or could even be world wide like Snoop, but Snoop's an OG in the rap game also and was head when the west coast owned the rap game for a while. I'm hearin the west doesn't even own west coast radio anymore though. Well Cube says this track is too west coast so will in resurrect the west at least in the west. I guess time will tell and it could already be makin moves on the west. I'm not in the west so iono. Anyway check out the OG Ice Cube's video, he's even got some words for Wayne in the song.

Let's Take A Walk

Jones Andrews and his Flight School Music fam have been hard at work opennin up and performing with artist like Lupe Fiasco, B.O.B, The Clipse, Wiz Khalifa, U-GOD, Yung LA, Dom Kennedy, Big Daddy Kane, Chubb Rock, Nice & Smooth and more. For his latest track Jones' has teamed up with his label mate the Mecca Of Rhymes for the track "Walking In My Shoes". Tracks got a classic feel to it so turn this on when u cruisin in your whip or mayb comin home from a hard days work and kickin your feet up. Check out the song after the jump and click the artwork to download. NC Stand Up!

FSM - Walking In My Shoes

Got A Thing For Chocolate?

Lil' Jon is tryin to make a comeback on the hip hop scene right now with his new single "Miss Chocolate". The cut features R. Kelly & Mario and definitely sounds like it could turn into a chocolate girls anthem. I kinda feel like with all the controversy there's been about only light skin girls bein shown in videos this song & video might get play jus to try and kill some of that buzz or jus in hopes to get some people to shut up. Who knos? I kno I've got a thang for chocolate anyway, how bout u?

"Midnight Hour"

Talib & Hi-Tek have returned as Reflection Eternal with their new single & video for "Midnight Hour" featuring Estelle. This single is off their Revolutions Per Minute album dropping May18th.

Thursday, May 6, 2010

New Club Banger?

Meek Mill dropped a video for his track "Where They Do That At?" which features Young Chris. I gotta admit, this might climb the charts and be bangin in the clubs in no time. Check it out and see if you feel the same.

Just Watch Me Make It

Travie McCoy better known as Travis McCoy from Gym Class Heroes jus released the video for his first single off his upcoming solo project Lazarus. The video is for "Billionaire" feat. Bruno Mars who's makin sum moves himself. Travie's album is set to release on June 8th and I gotta say I like this track. I'll be playin it. All the dreamers out there check it out.

You "Go Girl"

Frank Nitt released a video for his track "Go Girl" featuring Problem. The track is definitely an uplifter for all types of women if I say so myself. So ladies keep ya head up and keep pushin towards your dreams. This might be a lil' anthem for ya.

Hot Freestyles

The first freestyle comes from J. Cole on Hot 97 with Funkmaster Flex. Cole has a few stumbles which shows he's comin off the dome but the boys skill is undeniable.

The second comes from the youngster Cory Gunz on Boss radio. Cory's speedy flow is crazy but I'm not sure everybody can follow him enough for him to gain fans when he really starts spittin like he does in this. Mayb I'm not given people enough credit. Cory's proved himself though already so we'll see what he does with Young Money.

Banger Of The Day

So after hearin this song I made up this post for "Banger Of The Day". The song comes from Phil Ade and is for the track "Always There". The song opens up with Common's "I Use To Love H.E.R." sampled into the beat which is a hip hop classic (arguably the best hip hop song ever made if you ask me). The song kinda brings you back to that classic 90's feel of hip hop as Phil Ade takes you on his story of approaching women. The video also features Raheem Devaughn in it which I didn't expect. Anyway, take a listen, check out the video. If you ask me. . .it's a banger!

Take A Listen

Ok, today I've got quite a few take a listen joints. Catchin up on some and others are all new.

So first off is "Pass Out" by Chiddy Bang. This single is off their Air Swell mixtape which is out now. The songs got sumwhat of a electronic/techno feel to it but is a pretty fun song and he's not too bad if u ask me. Video's pretty creative, least I can say I don't think I've seen anything quite like it. So check out Chiddy Bang's "Pass Out".

Next Up is an artist who simple goes by Ya Boy. The track is "We Ready" which from the video I'm assuming is off the Lebron James movie soundtrack (I don't remember the name of it and don't feel like looking it up). Anyway if given the chance I can def see this joint rockin some locker rooms to get teams hype before some sporting events. We'll see if it grows.

The last hip hop joint today comes from Mac Miller. This track is off his High Life mixtape which is out now and is entitled "Another Night". Anybody that's on a grind to make it in music or anything else for that matter should be able to relate to this song. He kinda sings it in a way which could throw some off I believe but give it a chance I say. Hopefully the lyrics and bein able to relate will keep u in it.

Ok and last. I'm jus doin this cause I love this lady and she can seem to do no wrong to me when he comes to music. She's already legendary. It's Sade's video for "Babyfather". The videos pretty koo & the song is soothing as always with Sade's voice. I was surprised to see jerkin' in the video. Shout out to the New Boyz and jerkers around the world.

Fakin' The Funk or Should I Say Trap?

So Doug E. Fresh's sons better known as Square Off jus released a video for their track "Scared Money" off their Last Of A Dying Breed mixtape. They come off a bit harder in this video/song and claim to have their trap game up. Now I don't kno the story of who they were raised with or where or nuthin like that but I'm sure Doug E. or his sons were doin that bad to be trappin. Then again, what do I kno, either way the songs got a couple of good punchlines I think so I figured I'd share it and let y'all say what y'all might think.

Where's This Guy?

So this song came to my head as I was just sittin around and it got me thinkin.....what happen to Quan? Most of you will probably remember him from his feature in the song "Just A Moment" by Nas. He was really the first guy I knew of that really sung and rapped all together before the whole Drake thing, but I have no idea what happen to him after this song. Anyway check it out and see if you remember him. Even comment if u kno anything.

"Heart & Soul of New York City"

So it looks like New York may have another anthem brought to you by Red Cafe. He recently release the video for the single "Heart & Soul of New York City" and the video takes you to many street ball courts in New York. Def catches the life of New York and jus to add some extra kick the track is produced by the legendary Pete Rock. Yea, nuff said.

Roc-A-Fella Comeback?

So apparently under Dame's new artist Curren$y, they're gonna resurrect the Roc. You can check MTV for more info but here's the interview where Curren$y and Dame discuss bringin Roc-a-fella bak.

Diary Of a Black Girl

Wale released his video for the single "Diary" today and the video is done pretty well also. The single itself tells a story that a lot of men feel but don't kno how to put into word about a lot of women and I'm sure there are some women out there who can agree or relate to the song. The video def has a personal feel as it portrays one woman's story in a way. Real poetic I'll say. Anyway this is def one of my fav tracks off Wale's Attention Deficit album which is already in stores and if u haven't got it by now your losin so at least check out the video to regain sum cool points. lol

Take A Listen

So today I'm posting a song by an NC artist who goes by the name of Pocket Lint. The cut I'm posting is called "We Gone Make It" and features Jones Andrews. Check it out and let me kno what you think.
